KICK FOR KIDS // FRYE FAMILY FOUNDATION

On July 21st I participated in Channing Frye's "Kick for Kids" Kickball Tournament. Channing used to play for the Blazers before being traded to the Phoenix Suns. Channing is also really, really tall which I think is important to mention. I watched him try to race through a children's blowup play structure at my sister's wedding only for him to get stuck and cry out, "these aren't made for big people!"

Anyways, we were the Kicking Academy and on July 21st we were deemed the worst team of the entire league. We really were awful. Out of a 28-team lineup, we were the only ones to lose every single game.

But hey, it's for the kids.

Every time I stepped up to kick teams would yell, "GET IN CLOSE!" which I thought was awfully insulting. Just because I am small does not mean I will bunt, thank you very much. Mostly I just played catcher so I didn't actually have to do anything.

The Kick for Kids Kickball Tournament is a joint venture between the Oregon Active Foundation and The Frye Family Foundation. The two local charities partnered to help kids in our community who are at-risk physically and mentally. The proceeds of this event go to sponsoring outdoor activities and health education programs at an Adventure Camp they are currently building.

It was well worth the public shame and humiliation. Like the constantly repeated mantra throughout all those very pathetic games, "hey, it's for the kids!"
