We Have Adventures: Detroit Lake and Silver Falls

Detroit Lake is a reservoir just south of Salem and 100 miles from Portland.   I've been there in the summer when the lake is filled with boisterous campers and swimmers. Right now it is being drawn down so the water level is very low.  After Detroit Lake we headed towards Silver Falls State Park where you can hike a few miles around several waterfalls.  We only ran into one other person during the hike who tried to school us on cameras.  We remained calm.

Here are my shots:

Canon AE-1 // Kodak Ektar 100

& here are his shots:

Chrome backpack // Sorel Tivoli Winter Boots from REI // Burton pullover jacket // Nikon D3S

It's eerie, really.  Every where you turn is remnants of an old forest.  Acting like an invasive species, moss has covered hundreds of years of life and decades of death.  Fog sits idly along the shoreline and mountains.

Deforestation at its prettiest.

  1. Sounds a bit like real Detroit. I wonder if there is a Portland Lake somewhere around here. It'd be cool to make a mirror post, ha.

  3. it's beautiful. not that this place comes from such a devastating event. but the idea behind this;
    that hauntingly beautiful things can come from the worst of events.

    thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

    1. Thank you! These were shot using our Nikon D3S. However, I primarily use my film cameras Canon AE-1 and the Hasselblad 501cm but also my Nikon D7k.
