WE HAVE ADVENTURES: WHITE RIVER FALLS

In 2009 Amitabha and I started the "We Have Adventure" series to get ourselves out of Portland.  In May of that year we discovered White River Falls which is one of Oregon's lovely secret hideaways.  It houses the remains of an old hydropower plant which supplied electricity from 1910 to 1960.  If you hike down through the path you'll come across almost four layers of the waterfall with every layer being pretty different than the layer before.

Just head towards the Gorge, exit on 87 toward Dufur Bend.  It's east of Tygh Valley along Highway 216.  It takes about two hours to get there from inner Portland but it is one of the most beautiful scenic drives.  You drive past the Gorge, then through these lovely rolling green hills and then you hit Oregon's desert.  Just wonderful.

Next up: Crater Lake, tree houses, hot springs, McKensize River Trail, Triangulation Peak and Boca Cave, Ape Caves and more.  Do you have any Oregon hideaway, trail or scenic landmark that you would like to share with me?  I'm on a mission to boldly go where I have not gone before.  ^_^

    1. Ditto! It's kind of ridiculous. I wish you here to adventure there with me. Two natives finally seeing one of Oregon's prettiest features. <3
